Flip flops have been making a comeback amongst students as the summer months approach.
However, reactions to this trend have been mixed as some students have strong opinions against this style of footwear at school.
“I think the rise of flip flops is disgusting,” sophomore Ethan Sadka said. “I personally do not want to see people’s feet and their disgusting tan lines.”
Others view this trend positively and see it as an appropriate fashion choice for the warmer weather.
“A lot of my friends wear flip flops, and I personally see them coming back in 2026, especially during the summer,” junior Briana Solomon said.
Flip flops have long been known for their convenience and comfort. As temperatures rise, more students appear to be choosing this type of footwear.
“When the weather is so warm, I can see why flips flops are so easy to throw on,” Solomon said.
The appearance of flip flops is not the only flaw students and faculty find in them but also the distraction that comes with this type of footwear.
“The name flip flops come from that annoying flapping sounds flip flops make when people walk,” Upper School English teacher Macklin Fanning said. “I mean it’s annoying!”
While opinions differ, the growing presence of flip flops highlights how seasonal changes can influence student fashion choices and spark conversation within the community.
“I mean flip flops have this aura about them,” freshman Baer Kelly said. “I think they are overall pretty awesome shoes.”
