Lindsay Ingram ’15, a Greenhill student who joined the community in seventh grade, hoped to pursue a job in business when she grew up.
However, after working in the insurance industry for six years, her career took a dramatic turn. In 2025, she joined Lives Robbed, a gun violence prevention nonprofit that aims to raise public awareness and advocate for stricter legislation.
“Their main focus is within Texas legislation,” Ingram said. “They’ve been working really hard on raising the age for gun purchase from 18 to 21 while also fighting for things like background checks.”
According to Ingram, she was inspired to join the organization because she wanted to introduce and spread awareness to new people after hearing about the shooting at Robb Elementary.
“What happened in this one [school shooting] really sat with me,” Ingram said.
Ingram also says that Greenhill’s core values and ideals of public service influenced her decision to join the organization.
“I think one of the values that was instilled in me at Greenhill is being in service to your community, and not just your local community, but your community at large,” Ingram said.
A Netflix film about the Uvalde shooting, titled “All the Empty Rooms,” was screened in Cinepolis at Victory Park, Dallas. Ingram hosted a discussion panel with the founders of the Lives Robbed organization at the event.
During the discussion panel, Ingram says she was emotionally impacted by the dedication and resilience of the mothers of the children killed in the shooting.
“I think it was really moving, and it just shows that if they can go through something as terrible as this and be able to still continue to fight for change, then there’s no excuse for the rest of us,” Ingram said.
Ingram says that young people can also be a part of the change.
“Don’t be afraid and don’t be set back by the naysayers, because there’s always going to be people who say that you can’t do something,” Ingram said.
She also says that youth awareness of global and national events is extremely important.
Ingram added that while it can be difficult to absorb everything going on in the world, it is important to stay engaged because it is the first step in being able to change the world for the better.
“I always encourage people to remember your voice counts,” Ingram said.
