The Greenhill boys varsity soccer team defeated rivals St. Mark’s School of Texas and Episcopal School of Dallas in back to back counter games on Friday, Jan. 17 and Wednesday, Jan. 22, respectively.
The win versus St. Mark’s on their field ended with a score of 3-1, securing Greenhill’s second victory over St. Mark’s this season. Greenhill once again had a score of 3-0 against ESD.
In the St. Mark’s game, freshman Hayden Miller led the Hornets’ offense by scoring two goals, and junior Harshdeep Bommareddy added a second-half goal to solidify the team’s lead.
“Friday’s win was an amazing experience not only as a player competing in the game, but also as a senior knowing that we got a positive result in the last match we will probably ever play against them,” senior captain Liam Fagelman said.
As the game clock approached halftime, Miller scored once again, giving Greenhill a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
After halftime, the team once again took possession of the ball. Bommareddy sealed the win for the Hornets.
“It was incredible to contribute to the team in such a big game,” Miller said. “We have been working on finishing plays in practice, and it paid off tonight.”
Fagelman praised his teammates for their efforts.
“I told the team before the game that this game will not be about who is the better team, but rather which team wants to win it more,” Fagelman said. “Every one of my teammates worked harder than their opponent, which beat St. Marks down and ultimately led to our success.”
The win gives Greenhill an undefeated record in games against St. Mark’s. Additionally, team members say this win will assist in increasing their momentum heading into the next stretch of counter season.
“It is huge for the confidence and belief of the boys that we can go to tough places and beat rivals in big games,” Varsity Boys Soccer Head Coach Paul Field said. “This should really help us as we get closer to the [SPC] championships”
The Hornets continued their winning start to counter season in a match against ESD, improving their record to 3-1.
Field says he is pleased with the team’s recent performances but remains determined to keep this success going.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished so far, but there is still work to do,” Field said. “We will use this as motivation to keep pushing forward.”
