Both the boys and girls varsity volleyball teams are headed to the Southwest Preparatory Conference championship tournament, with the girls team seeded fourth and the boys team seeded second.
The varsity boys volleyball team is led by seniors Ravi Vasan and Jadon Lee. The tournament is in Fort Worth, and they are entering with a counter record of 4-2.
“I am excited to go to SPC because the team’s energy has been really high,” said junior Alex Sharma. “It’s so much more fun to play when the team’s chemistry is good.”
The girls team is led by juniors Campbell Sims and Zoë Gillen-Malveaux, as well as sophomore Kendall Johnson.
The girls currently have a counter-season record of 4-1, ending with a win against the Episcopal School of Dallas on Oct. 26.
“We have two vital players out with injuries, so we will need some new players to step up and fill their roles,” said Gillen-Malveaux. “I am very optimistic about our finish for SPC based on all our hard work this season and our motivation to win.”
Players say ending the season with two sweeps, with one being on senior night, is great motivation for the SPC tournament.
“I am happy we could show our love for our seniors with a win, but also that we gained back our energy and our confidence,” said sophomore Jaqueline Dishman. “I think it was great to finish our last home game of the season with a sweep because it gave us really good momentum going into SPC.”
