After years of anticipation and multiple delays, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on Nov. 19, leaving fans wondering if the next chapter in Rockstar Games’ blockbuster franchise will be worth the wait.
GTA is an open-world video game series that allows players to explore cities, complete missions, and cause chaos in the streets. Known for its detailed environments and freedom of gameplay, the franchise has become one of the most successful in gaming history.
Following GTA V, which takes place in Southern California, GTA VI transports players to Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida. The game features a Miami Vice theme, that players like freshman Grant Staub are excited to jump into.
“The new map will be bigger than GTA V and have more opportunities to explore,” Staub said.
The new installment follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two characters involved in a criminal storyline across Leonida. Players should expect to explore the land from both players’ perspectives.
However, the road to release has not been smooth. Originally expected to release in May 2025, the game faced many delays, leaving fans waiting for the record-breaking release.
“I was really disappointed when they sent out the release date,” Staub said.
Some fans believe that the delays were not unintentional, but a strategic plan. This has lead to controversy and debate in the gaming community.
“I think it was on purpose at first to build hype,” freshman Ari Pouratian said.
In November 2025, Rockstar Games addressed fans’ frustration over the elongated release date, explaining that the additional time would allow improvements before its release.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar Games said in a statement to enraged fans.
Sophomore Andrew Sharma is most excited about the social aspect of the video game.
“I am most excited for the opportunity to play with my friends like we used to on GTA,” Sharma said.
