The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers recently hosted its annual Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, where numerous Greenhill visual arts and photography students received recognition for their work.
“It is a very prestigious award in the art world,” senior Austin Cohen, who received the Gold Key Portfolio, said. “It is something that a lot of people take very seriously.”
Since 1923, the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers has celebrated teenage artwork and writing, with top winners advancing to higher levels of competition and the Gold Key Portfolio winner being eligible for a $12,500 scholarship.
In photography, along with Cohen, junior Nora Ahearn received two Gold Key awards for single photos, and junior Sumedha Rapuri received a Silver Key award. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Cohen, junior Sofia Lanzillotta and senior Aaron Stein, each earning recognition for their individual photos.
In 2D visual art, senior Oliver Burke earned a Gold Key in painting and multiple honorable mentions in painting and printmaking, along with a Silver Key. Freshman Aanya Krishnakumar received a Gold Key in mixed media, and freshman Yeva Uppal, Lanzillotta and junior Megan Czuchlewski earned honorable mentions in drawing and design. Junior Laura Presley received two honorable mentions in painting, while junior Andrew Hamilton was recognized in printmaking
“It felt good to win something and it was really fun to do, I was very happy to see the award,” Burke said.
