Greenhill Narrowly Loses in Homecoming Football Game

Payton Blalock

After a hard-fought battle vs. Coram Deo Academy, Greenhill ultimately fell 36-27 to the Lions on Friday night.

Greenhill went up 14-0 in the first quarter, thanks to a touchdown pass from quarterback Bennett Broaddus to wide receiver Winston Black and an 11-yard rushing touchdown by running back Emilio Garcia.

This early lead was a first for the Hornets this season, but unfortunately, it was followed by 30 unanswered points for the Lions.

While a rushing touchdown by Broaddus and a 6-yard touchdown pass to Black in the third quarter helped the Hornets climb back into the game, Coram Deo running back John Raybuck ended up rushing for 10 yards to score the final points of the game.

The final score was 36-27, the Hornets falling just 9 points short of their first win of the season.  Broaddus finished the game with 500 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, and Black ended up with 12 receptions, 230 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Although the game didn’t end in victory, this was the closest game that Greenhill has played this season and spirits were high in the tightly packed bleachers filled with students, parents, and alums who had returned to Greenhill to celebrate homecoming.
