The Girls Varsity Soccer team concluded its season with a third-place finish in the Southwest Preparatory Conference tournament. The team reached the semifinal round, where it lost 0–3 to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
Prior to the tournament on Feb. 5-7, the team spent several weeks preparing through regular training sessions and film review.
“We trained every afternoon. We watched film and we ran through set pieces two days leading up to our first game,” Girls Soccer Head Coach Laura Flanagan said.
A notable moment during the season occurred during a match against The Hockaday School, when the team earned its first victory over the program in 20 years during SPC. The team also tied twice during the regular season.
“I had no doubt in my mind that we were going to win going into that game,” sophomore player Eden Collins said. “But once the referee blew the final whistle, it definitely taught everyone that if you want something done, do it.”
The team was the sixth out of eight seeds in the 4A division entering the tournament and the standing contributed to its eventual third-place finish in SPC.
“As a player it wasn’t the intended outcome, but it taught me that there are wins in every moment,” Collins said. “I could be bummed and complain that we didn’t win SPC, but as a player who has seen both sides of the game, I’m choosing to celebrate this team.”
Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, the program will graduate nine players, including five starters.
“We have some rebuilding to do. When you lose nine players, you get to reimagine when new players arrive next year,” Flanagan said. “Our seniors and non-returning players are on to exciting new adventures. They left a beautiful legacy and now we will have to build a new one.”
