It is a tradition for seniors to receive a birthday treat during their birthday month. This year, senior parents organized for the treats to be catered by Sugar & Sage Bakery.
Sugar & Sage is a Bakery in Highland Park, owned by senior Ashley Weinstein and her mom, Allison Weinstein.
“We thought that it would be a great initiative to use a student-run business as a way to support the senior treats,” Weinstein said. “My mom and a couple of other moms thought it would be a great idea to utilize this opportunity for Sugar & Sage’s marketing as well.”
This is the first year the senior treats are being catered by Sugar & Sage.
“We wanted to see how we could make birthday treats much better,” Weinstein said. “We thought that adding a personal touch by using a senior’s business would make the tradition a little more personable.”
The first round of senior treats for August and September birthdays took place on Sept. 4.
“[The treat] was a cupcake with sprinkles on it, and it was so good,” senior Claire Brophy said.
This is one of many traditions seniors get to experience in their last year at Greenhill.
“I think it is important that we have a senior birthday tradition like this,” Brophy said. “I love all the little traditions seniors have, and it is really cool to experience them now that I am a senior.”
