Girls Varsity Golf competed in the Southwest Preparatory Conference championship on Apr. 17 and Apr. 18 at The Woodlands Country Club in Houston, Texas.

Among those competing was sophomore Amanda Park, and seniors Laya Venkat and Bridget Hill. Park shot 92-86 for a 2-day total score of 178, placing 14th in individual scoring in the 4A division. Venkat shot 121-117, and Hill scored 120-199.

“It was a lot of fun to bond with girls on the team as I’m wrapping up my last year at Greenhill. Our attitude towards the sport is to get a little better every day, and I felt like the tournaments were good learning experiences,” Venkat said.

There is a rule in SPC golf tournaments that states that a team must have four players turn in their team score for their round. Given this rule, the girls varsity golf team did not qualify for the team scoring format of the tournament, as they only had three players competing.

“It was an unfortunate situation where we didn’t have enough players, but I am proud of the girls who came out and gave it their all,” Head Coach Thom Flinders said.

Despite not qualifying for the team scoring aspect of the tournament, the players still made the most of the SPC tournament.

“I was able to learn more about myself and my game in a stress-free environment. I also enjoyed some good weather and got to meet some new people,” Venkat said.
