Senior Abby Platt has recently announced her verbal commitment to Bucknell University where she will play Division 1 tennis.

Platt is a 3-star recruit ranked 224 nationally and 21 in Texas, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.

Platt held offers from Colgate University, West Point, Middlebury College and Bucknell, leaving her with what she said was a hard decision to make.

According to Platt, the process was also complicated by the timing of the offers.

“I was a little stressed out because the offers didn’t all come at the same time,” said Platt. “I felt pressured to take an offer from one school when I didn’t have an offer from another.”

Platt visited all the colleges to see their campuses and get a glimpse of her next four years. In the end, Platt said she choose Bucknell because “It had the best balance of academics and athletics that [she] found at a school.”

“It felt like I was at home,” Platt said.

Platt’s skill comes as a result of her dedication. She goes to practice for two hours after school, and regularly completes morning workouts.

Due to the amount of time she dedicates to tennis, Platt said it was sometimes a challenge to also stay on top of her academics.

“It’s very hard to catch up after tournaments because they take up the whole weekend,” Platt said. “I manage my time well so I can get my work done.”

Platt said she can’t wait to take her talents to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and carry on her love for tennis.
