Sixth grader Fiona Ou and eighth grader Adam Tawil both won silver awards for their work submitted to the 21st National Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools Essay Contest.
Essays entered into this contest are written entirely in Chinese. Tawil said the creation of his essay took about a month.
“It was a very intensive process,” Tawil said.
All essays submitted to the contest had to correlate to sports, which was this year’s topic.
“I wrote about how [soccer] encourages teamwork, and you need a good balance of skill and ability,” Tawil said. “I also said how it helps build cognitive development, and it is just fun to play.”
