Junior Henry Zhong placed second in the St. John’s School Lost Pines Invitational, which occurred April 14 and 15, at the Lost Pines Golf Club in Austin, TX.
Zhong, the number one seed of the boy’s varsity golf team, had a total of eight birdies en route to shooting 73 (+1) on both days for a two-day total of 146.
“I feel great,” Zhong said. “I have been working back from a wrist injury for a while now and getting a good result after some disappointing rounds is really beneficial for my confidence and future progression.”
Last year, in the same tournament, Zhong finished first in individual scoring posting a total score of 140 (69-71) over two days.
Throughout the season, Zhong has been persevering from a wrist injury that he suffered from earlier in July.
“It has been a tough rehab process, but I finally am working at the right issue,” Zhong said. “I have seen great results, and I really feel that I’m on my way to being 100%.”
The boys varsity golf Southwest Preparatory Conference Championships take place on April 30 and May 1 at the Golf Club of Houston.
Zhong says he is optimistic for the team’s results at the SPC championship.
“My hope for SPC is a solid tournament from every player,” Zhong said. “We have had a turbulent year, but I trust the guys to work hard and put in the effort to play well at SPC.”
Junior Hayden Sampson says Zhong has been an integral part of the team for the past three seasons.
“He has been such an important part of our program for the last three years, and I am extremely grateful that I have had him as a teammate,” Sampson said.
