Sophomore Jaxson Thompson hit the 1,000-point mark in his Greenhill varsity boys basketball career during the team’s victory over Cistercian Preparatory School on Jan. 23.
Thompson started on the varsity team as a freshman last school year and reached this milestone in less than two seasons.
“It hasn’t really set in yet because I didn’t expect to hit it during that game, but it’s definitely a cool achievement,” Thompson said.
Thompson has a chance to catch Greenhill’s all-time scoring leader Xavier Bryant ’18. He totaled 2,449 points during his time at Greenhill. He was also a four-time Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State selection.
Thompson has been averaging 17.2 points per game this season, also contributing 4.1 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 steals. He has helped the team to many achievements throughout the year including a 25-game win streak.
He says he has goals past just hitting 1000 points.
“I want to hit 2,000 points, I want to be all-conference this year and I want to win an SPC championship,” Thompson said.
Thompson will receive a basketball marked with his achievement. Additionally, he will be honored during the winter sports ceremony.
