On Friday, Mar. 24, Greenhill athletes competed in their respective games on Hornet Night. Among the 5 teams that played, 4 of them won.

The evening of games also served as Senior Night for most sports, honoring senior athletes. Spring athletes walked the field in between boys’ and girls’ lacrosse games, and girls’ varsity cheer along with the boy’s and girls’ golf seniors were recognized.

“It was a great opportunity to celebrate how much we put into the program for the last 4 years,” senior and girls’ varsity lacrosse captain Emily Quinn said.

The varsity baseball team scored 13 runs in the 2nd inning en route to their 18-0 win against Casady School. They have won 3 games in a row, and they are 2-0 in their Spring Season counter games.

“We’re really coming together as a team at the right time,” senior Kenny Zhao said. “We want to continue this string of good results for as long as we can.”

The girls’ varsity lacrosse team won a close game against St. Stephens School 15-14. The boys’ varsity lacrosse also had a big win, as they took down Awty International School 15-1. They improved to a record of 5-2 on the season, and 2-1 in counter games.

“We’ve really tried to include everyone on the offense by sharing the ball with everyone,” senior Ryan Goldstein said. “We’ve realized that we have more success when we get people involved on the offensive side of the ball.”

Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity tennis teams beat Casady School in their matches, with the boys winning 4-1 and the girls completing the sweep and winning 5-0.

“It was a great performance all around from the team,” Kim said. “Hopefully this gives us some momentum going into the rest of our counter games.”

Varsity softball was the only Greenhill team that lost their game, falling to Casady School 6-18.

Boys’ and girls’ track competed in the Parish Invitational 2023 on Friday, Mar. 24, and Saturday, Mar. 25. The boys placed 7th out of 13 schools, and the girls finished 5th out of 13 schools.

Sophomore Alex Sharma is an integral part of the boys’ track team competing in the long jump, triple jump, 4×400 relay, 4×100 relay, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

“I’m excited for Texas Relays because of the experience I will gain. To be able to bond with my teammates while also performing at the meet will be fun,” Sharma said.

Overall, Greenhill athletes found success with the help of fans showing their support for Hornet Night and Senior Night.

“This was the first time we’ve really had fans at our games,” senior Jack Reed said. “They really inspired us to play well in front of all the people who came out.”
