Greenhill’s Varsity Field Hockey team defeated the Fort Worth Country Day Eagles in their first counter of the season on Thursday, Oct. 7.

The game was tied for more than three quarters with a score of 0-0, and with only six minutes left in the game, sophomore Hayden Goodman took charge and scored to settle the match.

The last time Greenhill faced Country Day in Field Hockey, the score was quite different, finishing with a loss and a 5-2 score.

The Varsity Field Hockey team was also coming off their Homecoming win from the game before against Parish. The game ended with a score of 4-0 and led them into another week of wins.

This game was crucial to the success of the team this season because it was a counter game for the Southern Preparatory Conference (SPC). These games and teams’ records with these games determine the placement of each team at the end of season SPC tournament. To start the tournament in better standing, teams must win as many counter games as possible.

Due to the previous match against Country Day, the team recuperated well to win a game more significant to their SPC standings. The previous game was not a counter.

Senior Captain Erin Reynolds was proud of her team and herself for the work they put in for this achievement.

“The game was the most rewarding win ever. We fought until the very last second for that win and it felt so great after losing to them the week before.” Reynolds said.
