On Friday, Sept. 24, the Greenhill Cross Country team traveled to Texas A&M University for a meet taking place the next day. Only select runners from the varsity team who had done particularly well at other meets were taken on this overnight trip.

Varsity Cross Country Head Coach Jason Yaffe said that the preparation for this race was the same as for any other meet. He mentioned that it was similar to other 5k races the team has run before.

“[The preparation] was not exactly easy, but it wasn’t particularly hard either,” Yaffe said.

The girls cross country team finished 13th overall, with senior Kendall Hashimoto placing 52nd with a time of 21:10. The boys team finished 22nd overall, led by freshman Chris Williams who placed 89th with a time of 17:42.

The cross country team usually goes on two overnight trips, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, only one was possible this year.

“The experience is very fun,” said Yaffe. “Usually, we have two [meets], one with select runners and one with everybody, but unfortunately, that wasn’t possible this year.”
