To celebrate Halloween on Friday, Oct. 30, Greenhill will be hosting the annual Halloween Parade. A tradition for the entire school, the parade serves as an opportunity for students and faculty to connect and enjoy the upcoming spooky season.
Led by Head of School Lee Hark, Associate Head of School for Mission, Community and Culture Tom Perryman and Head of Preschool and Lower School Michael Simpson, the parade will begin promptly at 2 p.m.
“The fact that we, as a community, literally drop everything at 2 p.m., is really cool and goofy, and its community building,” Upper School History Department Chair Amy Bresie ’96 said.
The band will kick-off the festivities with music and costumes, entertaining students through upbeat tunes.
“Band is there to further enhance the preexisting excitement,” freshman band member Adi Girish said.
Along with a special lunch and locker room decorations, the senior class will be walking in the parade, a tradition many have waited years to participate in. As they lead the younger students throughout the school, students can expect to see a variation of costumes from campus’s oldest students and their advisors.
“We grew up watching the parade, so it feels like a rite of passage to lead this tradition as seniors,” senior Diya Jain said.
To conclude the celebration, preschoolers through fourth graders will have the opportunity to show off their costumes as they parade behind the seniors. The procession route spans from the Lower School towards the Upper School and Fine Arts Building, giving older students a chance to support Greenhill’s youngest members.
“It’s always fun to see how excited the little kids get when they see the older ones cheering them on,” sophomore Olivia Rosenfeldt said.
