Mike Domitrz, the founder of the Center for Respect – an anti-sexual assault organization –visited Greenhill to educate ninth and eleventh graders on dating, consent, respect and boundaries on Sept. 30.
Domitrz is an author of three books and was one of only five speakers to be inducted into the National Speakers Association Hall of Fame in 2022. Currently, he speaks to thousands of people each year about consensual sexual relationships.
“We need to have mature conversations around these topics,” Domitrz said in his presentation to juniors.
The educational assemblies he led were a part of a broader effort by Greenhill to encourage student safety at Homecoming.
“We want Saturday’s dance to be a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone,” said Head of Upper School Trevor Worcester in an email to Upper School students and families.
During his talk to eleventh grade, Domitrz debunked stereotypes, defused pressure and outlined steps of how to achieve mutually amazing consensual sexual relationships – a goal that Domitrz said 95% of high school students who are in a sexual relationship don’t meet.
“Why are we in a race for mediocrity,” Domitrz said during the junior grade-wide assembly.
Domitrz also spoke to the ninth grade by his “SAFER Choices” program – which aims to be a fun and interactive experience that educates students on consent, respecting boundaries, bystander intervention and supporting survivors, according to the Center for Respect website.
At the end of both sessions, he gave out T-shirts to students who were willing to participate.
“Don’t give up the freedom of what happens to your body,” Domitrz said at the end of the junior assembly.
