Pre Game
For the first time ever, Greenhill Lacrosse has advanced to the Texas High School Lacrosse League Class C State Championship. This past weekend, the lacrosse team traveled to Boerne, Texas, to play in the first few rounds of the state tournament. They won both of their games, which advanced them to the championship.
Greenhill Lacrosse plays in the Class C division of the Texas High School Lacrosse League, the fourth-highest division in the tournament. Their first game was played against Boerne High School, Greenhill won 12-10. In their second game, Greenhill Lacrosse played Gateway Charter Academy, securing an 11-7 victory.
Both games were upset victories against higher-seeded teams. Senior Captain Jadon Lee says that a good mindset won both games.
“Every player on the team brought this mindset, and everyone played a vital role [in our success],” Lee said.
Junior Max Johnson says that the second game was remarkable.
“We flew around the field and played simple lacrosse,” junior lacrosse player Max Johnson said.
The Lacrosse team’s victory guaranteed their spot in the state championship game this Saturday against Plano High School. The game is at Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Texas.
Lee says the team is feeling great and has pushed hard in their past couple of practices for the championship.
“Everyone is psyched for this Saturday,” Johnson said.
Post Game
During this weekend’s contest, the Hornets fell to the Plano Wildcats 15-7 in the Class C State Championship game.
While the Lacrosse team is disappointed with this weekend’s result, Junior Goalie Mayer Sidikaro said they are still proud of their season.
“We were able to accomplish things that no Greenhill Men’s lacrosse team has ever accomplished,” said Sidikaro. “After the initial sting of this game wears off, I think we will be able to look back and appreciate an unprecedented season.”
With the conclusion of this game, the Hornets finished 2nd in Class C, their highest placement in program history.
