Greenhill seniors are continuing the tradition of Instagram takeovers this year. The tradition involves a senior taking over the senior Instagram account to vlog and share a day in their life.
Senior class secretary Kendall Poglitsch, who runs the senior Instagram account, sent a Google Form to students to sign up for the takeover. Poglitsch has guidelines to make sure that the Instagram account remains appropriate.
“A lot of our parents and teachers follow this account, [and] I know a lot of parents love seeing a day in the life of a senior and underclassmen do too,” Poglitsch said.
The first person to do a takeover this year was senior Gracie Tamez on Homecoming Day. She chose Homecoming to share a cheerleader’s point of view for all the events occurring that day.
“I do not post on Snapchat or Instagram, so posting for so many people that I would never post for on my own social media was really new to me,” Tamez said. “So, it was kind of hard because I had to ask people, ‘Is this okay to post?’”
Tamez said that her takeover inspired other seniors to sign up and showcase their own identities and interests.
“I just think it shows a lot of different unique personalities from different people that otherwise we might not get to see,” Tamez said.
Poglitsch plans to continue posting senior traditions and college decisions and hopes that the upcoming Greenhill seniors will continue this tradition in future years.
“It has turned into more of a tradition for seniors, and I think it promotes school spirit because people just get really excited to show off their day and what they do,” Poglitsch said. “I feel like it kind of makes Greenhill seem a little bit more fun in a way for people to vlog their day and just enjoy their school day in a way they have not before.”
