Primer to Host Annual Pie Contest

Allie Schnitzer

The Primer class will host the 19th annual Primer Pie Contest on Thursday, Oct. 20. The contest will take place from 10-11 a.m. in the Primer classroom.

The pies are to be judged on three categories: sweet, savory, and most creative. The most creative category is a new addition to the competition, and this will be the first time it effects the results of the competition.

Last year, the first-place prize was awarded to third grade literacy teacher and third grade team leader Hannah Harkey with her “Piggy Pie” entry. Second place went to first time contest participant, kindergarten teacher Bryce Sizemore. The third-place pie was a Boston Crème Pie made by third grade humanities teacher Karen Dzialowski.

An email from Primer Teachers Rhonda Bier and Janice LaMendola, suggests that anyone seeking additional information about the competition can ask any former Primer students over the age of 10.  This lag in pie contest knowledge is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which put a temporary end to the Primer Pie Contest.

There is still time to sign up for this contest, and the email from Primer teachers states that the Primer students “need your pie!”
