New Upper School science teacher Emily Myhre was teaching at Allen High School when she saw a job opening in the science department at Greenhill. Having gone to an all-girls independent school, she says she was drawn to the quality environment of private schools.
At Greenhill, Myhre is currently teaching Biology and AP Environmental Science, and next semester will teach Biotechnology.
Myhre initially studied STEM in college, working as a lab assistant for plant genetics research, and has continued her lab involvement since graduation. She later went back to school for her teaching certificate.
Due to her experience of attending private schools herself, Myhre knew she wanted to teach at one, and that ultimately led her to Greenhill.
“When I was living in D.C. I worked in a school that was very similar to Greenhill, and it’s really been the best professional environment I’ve ever taught in. So, I wanted to get back to something like that,” Myhre said.
After living in the Dallas area for seven years, she recalls feeling ecstatic to see a position open at Greenhill.
Science Department Chair Treavor Kendall says he appreciates Myhre’s work.
“I think she’s an amazing addition to our team. She brings a great perspective to our biology program as well as our Advanced Placement Environmental Science program,” Kendall said. “She loves environmental science and biology, and I really admire that and respect that passion she has.”
Meanwhile, Myhre says she feels very comfortable within the Greenhill community and feels supported by her colleagues – even in other departments.
“I felt really welcomed by a lot of the faculty,” Myhre said.
The environment Myhre has been introduced to has resulted in many positive feelings about her future in the Greenhill community. She says she feels hopeful that she will continue teaching here until she retires.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here, so far. Absolutely, I could see myself being here for a long time,” she said.
