Boys varsity lacrosse remains one of the most popular sports at Greenhill, with many players signing up each season. A history of Southwest Preparatory Conference championship titles and many team bonding activities draws in new players every season, most of whom stay on the team for all four years.
“I play lacrosse because my dad convinced me to give it a try and I’ve been hooked on it ever since,” junior Max Johnson said. “I take it a lot more seriously now with a lot of time off the field, and I’ve been made a captain.”
The team consistently sees many new members through the years as it remains the third largest team at Greenhill following varsity boys football and varsity track and field.
Freshmen often find themselves encouraged by their peers to try lacrosse in the springtime.
For some, their lacrosse journey began during middle school. For others, like sophomore Marcus Kim, freshman year would be their first time on the team.
“I needed a spring sport for the credit and some of my friends told me it would be fun, so I tried out,” Kim said. “I really like it and will probably play next year.”
Many players have attributed the team’s success to the amount of returning players each year. The consistency and year-round training sharpens each player’s skills and allows them a competitive edge for the next season.
Senior Jadon Lee says he hopes the team continues to build their winning record. Lee has been playing club lacrosse since he was young and immediately started on the varsity boys lacrosse team during his first year in the Upper School.
“Lacrosse has been in my family for a long time now and I fell in love with the sport when I was a kid,” Lee said. “I’m very thankful for my time playing lacrosse at Greenhill, with the friends and memories I’ve made along the way.”
Lee says the competitive environment and team chemistry is what makes the team successful.
“I think I’ve met my best friends through playing lacrosse and football at Greenhill,” junior Hunter Fields said
