Warm boots, sandals and slippers of all shapes and colors have recently filled Greenhill’s hallways. The early 2000s trend has returned and become a part of many students’ wardrobes.
When one thinks of Uggs, the first thing that comes to mind are winter boots, but the brand offers many other styles worn in many ways by Greenhill students.
Dozens exist, with ranges in heights, colors and cuts. Three specific styles are seen most frequently around the Upper School campus and those are the Coquette Slipper, the Tasman and the mini boot.
The Coquette Slipper
A popular version of the shoe seen around hallways is the Coquette Slipper. Their indoor-outdoor versatility makes them a favorite for students.
“They are very comfortable and warm, and it is very convenient when I can just slip them on for school,” freshman Briana Solomon said.
Solomon is now on her second pair of Ugg slippers.
“I like to wear them with sweatpants and comfy outfits, I’ve had them for a year and I wear them so much,” Solomon said. “I use a waterproofing spray, so they last longer.”
The Upper School’s dress code prohibiting pajamas has led to speculation that the house shoes should not be worn during the school day.
These slippers are not allowed in the Middle School.
“In Middle School many students got warned to be dress coded because of the slippers, so now I am happy to be able to wear them in high school,” Solomon said.
The Tasman
While some may think of Uggs as a feminine shoe, the Ugg Tasman is being worn by both boys and girls in the Upper School.
Much like the slippers, these clogs are quick to put on before school or after athletics.
Freshman Julian Kincheloe wears his Tasman shoes almost daily, wearing them with warm clothes or throwing them on after a workout with his football team.
“After practice, I don’t really feel like taking the time to put on normal sneakers, so just slipping my Tasman slippers on is very convenient,” Kincheloe said. “They are very comfy, and I wear them in all weather.”
Kincheloe usually styles his Uggs with sweatpants and a hoodie, sometimes a fur coat depending on the weather.
The Classic Ultra Mini
The Classic Ultra Mini boot is worn by Greenhill students as well.
The trend was popularized from social media, specifically TikTok. Celebrities popular amongst Greenhill students have been seen sporting this trend. Gigi Hadid, Charli D’amelio and Ellie Zeiler have all been seen in this style.
Freshman Neve Felder owns a pair.
“I always saw TikTok influencers wearing them, and I thought they were really cute and looked so comfortable, so I bought them,” Felder said.
Overall, Uggs have made a comeback combining fashion and comfort, making the shoes appealing Greenhill students.
