The Valdes STEM + Innovation Center opening has been delayed two months, with a new scheduled opening at the beginning of the second semester in 2024. The news comes after the reveal was pushed back to Thanksgiving Break 2023, after it was initially scheduled to open in August 2023.
The construction team was having logistics issues ordering a part with the air conditioning system in the building, causing a stall in progress. The transition will include a “soft move” of the math and science teachers into their new classrooms, from Thanksgiving Break until the New Year, says Dean of Students Jack Oros.
Students are disappointed about the delay but still excited about the long-awaited reveal. “I was really looking forward to using the building for my last year at Greenhill, but I am still hopeful that I will be able to enjoy it second semester,” senior Vivaan Gupta said.
Greenhill’s most recent big project is nearing the finish line, as students as well as faculty wait for its arrival. Although classes will shift into the building starting the second semester, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Jan. 26, 2024.
“We are excited about getting into the new facility, but at the very least, having it after the fall semester is a more natural time to be moving,” said Upper School Math Teacher Jason Zuffranieri.
