Robotics Team Viridian Wins First Competition of the Season
One of Greenhill’s two robotics teams has started the season strong by winning their first competition.
As a result of the victory, Viridian Robotics now moves on to the regional tournament.
Viridian Robotics, was the only team in the competition with a robot able to perform most of the tasks of this year’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).
The team, coached by Upper School computer science teacher Maria Suarez, participates in the portion of the competition where they give a presentation about their process. For their performance, the team was awarded the Inspire Award.
The Inspire Award is a prize given to teams that meet rigorous criteria. To receive it, Viridian Robotics had to display sportsmanship, exhibit strong team dynamics, have a creative robot and have a detailed record of their process building and programming the robot.
FTC is a competition organized by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, a corporation that seeks to enrich engineering education by hosting competitions at the high school level.
This year, the FTC challenge is Skystone, a tower building themed arena. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGB_8Ppnbs&t=308s ← link to Skystone Video.
