Sophomore Myra Puri was selected for the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Philharmonic Orchestra for 2024.
Puri says she found her passion for playing the violin when she was three years old. Ever since, she has practiced constantly, sometimes playing for up to eight hours a day.
“I love to share what makes me happy with others and bring them the same joy it gives me,” Puri said.
Puri has performed many performances at Greenhill School, such as for Middle School assemblies and Greenhill Orchestra concerts.
“Myra’s one who made the decision early on that this is something she wants to pursue,” orchestra teacher Nick Paraskevas said. “She’s very focused on her work.”
Puri started preparing over the summer to pass several rounds – region, area and state – of auditions for the TMEA All-State Philharmonic Orchestra.
Puri was one of the top musicians chosen among high schoolers across Texas. She will be playing the violin among nearly twenty other violists. She is the first person selected to perform at TMEA All-State Philharmonic Orchestra in around 20 years for Greenhill.
“I had lots of practice auditions where my teachers pretended to be judges,” Puri said. “It helped me get comfortable in an audition setting.”
In preparation for the performance, Puri will participate in three days of rehearsals with the rest of the All-State Philharmonic Orchestra.
On Saturday, Feb. 10, the All-State musicians will perform a concert in San Antonio, Texas.
“It’s a great opportunity to perform with my talented friends from all different parts of Texas,” Puri said. “I am excited to grow as a musician throughout this experience.”
