On Sunday Sept. 15, the senior class had their annual senior family cookout and Water Tower painting.
Many seniors say they have been looking forward to this event for many years, as it is one of the special traditions that come with being a senior at Greenhill.
“It really marks the beginning of your senior year,” senior Lauren Harrington said.
While the tradition usually takes place before the first day of school, this year it was held later due to the extreme heat in August.
Although it did not take place during the traditional time, senior Amanda Park says there were some positives in delaying the event.
“It was pretty nice out when we did it, and we were also able to do it during the sunset which was really pretty,” Park said.
Additionally, Park said she liked how the event fostered community bonding between the seniors and their families.
“I thought it was a good bonding experience because people brought their parents and family members, so it made it one big and fun event,” Park said.
Also, during the event, Upper School English teacher Blake Harkey was introduced as the senior class dean.
Harrington says she is excited to have him as their class dean.
“I think he will be a good switch,” Harrington said. “He truly looks forward to our class meetings and wants to help us.”
The seniors also participated in other customary events such as making their senior t-shirts and painting their cars.
“We did [the painting of the shirts and cars] a week before school started and we all went to a parking lot,” Park said.
There are many other senior events this fall for the seniors to look forward to as well, including the Halloween parade, Homecoming Week, Southwest Preparatory Conference Championships and more.
“I am excited for the Halloween parade and to walk across the field during the Homecoming game,” Park said.
