Senior Josie Arbuckle set two individual records as well as a relay record at Greenhill’s swim meet against The Hockaday School on Jan. 9.
While at the meet, hosted by St. Mark’s School of Texas, Arbuckle participated in the girls 100-yard freestyle, the girls 100-yard backstroke, the girls 200-yard freestyle relay and the girls 200-yard medley relay.
In her own individual races, she won pool records in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Arbuckle, alongside teammates sophomores Sasha Wai and Avery Lonergan and freshman Kathrine Feng, set a pool record in the girls 200-yard medley relay.
A pool record is the fastest-ever recorded time for a specific event in a given pool. In this instance, Arbuckle set three records for the fastest times in St. Mark’s natatorium pool.
“Setting records was unexpected but still really cool,” Arbuckle said. “My goal originally was to win and execute as best as I could. I had no expectation of setting any records.”
Arbuckle says she had no idea she had won these records until after the swim meet was done. She says she was surprised when she heard the news.
Arbuckle says Head Varsity Swimming Coach Patti Monzingo aided Arbuckle in her journey of achieving these records.
“Coach Monzingo is always a really big part of everything I do with Greenhill swimming,” Arbuckle said. “She is always incredibly supportive and has my best interest in mind. I am so thankful to call her my coach.”
Arbuckle says she hopes to continue winning records at the Southwest Preparatory Conference championships hosted at the University of Houston Natatorium from Feb. 9-10.
“I felt so extremely proud to call [Arbuckle] my teammate,” junior Brynn Zawadzki said. “She works so hard, and it is amazing to see her work paying off.”
