Senior Noah Piper has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I football at Yale University, according to an Instagram post that Piper made over the summer.
This football season will be his fourth season as the starting kicker on the Greenhill boys varsity football team.
This past summer, Piper attended many football kicking camps and showcased his abilities to national coaches.
“The experience and exposure I got from those camps was great and is a big part of what gave me the opportunity to play football at Yale,” Piper said.
In addition to playing football, Piper is the goalie for the Greenhill boys varsity soccer team. Piper partly credits his success at kicking to his soccer background.
“Being a goalie, you have to have a strong leg to be able to kick the ball far,” Piper said. “So, that part of my game translated to me being able to kick a football pretty far.”
Piper has not been a kicker for long, as he only began kicking in the ninth grade.
“I think it is awesome, he has worked so hard,” Head of Athletics and Physical Education Jarrett Shine said. “He came in as a freshman thinking about kicking, [but] he did not know what it was going to lead to.”
Piper’s verbal commitment to Yale University marks the first time a Greenhill football player has committed to an NCAA Division 1 program since Kassidy Woods ’18, who committed to Washington State University.
Piper will continue to showcase his kicking abilities on the field with the Greenhill football team throughout the fall season.
