A new school year means new hirings, and this year there are many in the Greenhill community. In the Upper School Math Department, Kent Thele is one of the new additions.
Thele attended the University of Texas at Austin for his master’s degree and the University of Tulsa for his bachelor’s degree.
“Thele is very engaging because he makes Geometry easy to understand, while also mixing in fun jokes,” freshman Paylin Barnes said.
Upper School Head of Math Department Darryn Sandler says Thele’s teaching style caught his attention.
“Thele was excellent in the classroom,” Sandler said. “He was engaging, had a strong command of the material, did a great job of showing the applications of the material and he brought a lot of positive energy to the classroom. Thele seemed like the type of team player you would want to be a part of our department and community,”
Sandler recalls being impressed by Thele’s mathematical knowledge and experience.
“He can teach a wide array of courses and loves spending time outside of class helping students who need additional support with concepts or problems,” Sandler said. “He is a wealth of knowledge.”
Outside of the classroom, Thele spends time coding and creating apps. He says the codes are used to emphasize visual understanding for math and geometry concepts.
