One of the newest student led clubs, the Roblox Club, attracted many students at the Upper School Club Fair on Sept. 27.
Roblox is an online or mobile gaming platform free to access. Roblox is comprised of thousands of games created by users exclusively. The platforms most played games include racing, role playing, simulations and obstacle courses.
The platform was created in 2006, higher participation rates beginning in the second half of the 2010s. Many attribute the platform’s growth to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I spent a lot of time playing Roblox with my friends over the pandemic because it was a fun way to be competitive with friends even though we were all online,” sophomore Briana Solomon said.
Juniors Aiden White and Aidan Rischer founded the Roblox Club. They both say that they share a love for the game.
“I started playing Roblox when I was five years old,” junior Aiden White said. “The first game I played was Natural Disaster Survival.”
Some Upper School students say the new club was particularly appealing to them as it allows them to form new bonds when playing the variety of games on the website. At the Club Fair, Roblox Club received over 70 sign-ups.
“I was surprised by how many students were interested in our club, especially among underclassmen,” Rischer said. “It was kind of a small idea to begin with, but students were really interested even if they had never played before.”
The Roblox Club leaders emphasize how teamwork will play a key role in club meetings and while managing multiplayer experiences, especially with the high participation from students.
“We plan on meeting once every club rotation,” White said. “We will all play games together including Dress to Impress, Jailbreak and DOORS.”
Additionally, the club leaders mentioned they have plans to introduce different forms of connections through Roblox.
“This year we are hoping to run a lot of fun activities, maybe even host a tournament,” Rischer said. “But more importantly, I hope that through these activities we form a sense of community.”
