New Balance sneakers have recently become popular across all divisions at Greenhill. In years prior, the sneakers have been seen rarely, if ever, and now the brand has reemerged as a popular style choice among Greenhill students.

One of the brand’s specific shoe styles most commonly seen around campus is the New Balance 550.

Freshman Carter McMahon has taken part in this phenomenon.

“I have them in the navy blue colorway. They go with almost every outfit too,” McMahon said.

Other popular styles include the 530, the 574 and the 327. These shoes all have a chunky design and come in a variety of colors.

Before, New Balance had the connotation of being a brand used solely for the purpose of investing in a quality pair of walking shoes. However, now they can be found being resold to younger crowds for hundreds of dollars.

Upper School Spanish Teacher Jacobo Luna says he thinks the modernization of the brand was a downgrade.

“Now, I would say I prefer Brooks tennis shoes for comfortability, they are casual but not fancy,” Luna said.
