As seniors prepare for college decisions to arrive, the college process is ramping up for the juniors.
This high expectation and additional work creates anxiety for juniors who are beginning to consider their futures elsewhere.
“Just thinking about [college] is a lot to manage, especially on top of my regular classwork,” junior Bette Tomecko said.
Seniors who have already gone through this process can now reflect and give advice to juniors who are just beginning.
“As soon as your Common App comes out, write it. Also, do all the stuff that takes time, like manually entering in all your transcripts and stuff like that,” senior Ayne Park said.
Park also emphasized the importance of being easy on yourself and not entering a mindset where you’re pressuring yourself about college all of the time.
“I spent a lot of time stressing about [applications] and not really doing anything about it,” Park said. There’s a lot of ways to relieve the busy work of college applications just by not being stressed and doing the work without overthinking.”
However, the stress of junior year is unavoidable to some. Multiple juniors share the experience of being constantly surrounded by pessimistic college talk.
“I’m hearing it all the time,” junior Chris Williams said.
That sentiment is shared by other juniors.
“I’m around negative talk all the time,” Tomecko said.
Yet not all juniors find themselves in a negative mindset when approaching college.
“I’m going into the process open-minded, so I’m just kind of deciding which college fits me the best,” junior Juan Orozco said. “[College talk] is mostly positively talked about with my peers. A lot of people are excited, but they’re just nervous about where they’re going to end up.”
Overall, the class of 2025 is looking forward to the process of deciding their future alma maters and feeling secure with the resources Greenhill provides for them.
“I’ll feel less nervous after meeting with the college counselors and getting their input,” Tomecko said.
