The Greenhill Upper School Improv Troupe will be hosting a Halloween-themed show on Oct. 29.
The Halloween theme will be incorporated through audience suggestions and games including “Weekend at Bernie’s” and “CSI Pennsylvania.”
“In the Halloween game, ‘Weekend at Bernie’s, everyone slowly starts dying, and we have to get dragged around on stage by other people,” sophomore Lydia Kerridge said.
The Halloween theme will also be incorporated into games played throughout the year, adding a scary element.
“We will be doing a panel game where we have experts and one of them is completely evil and crazy,” Kerridge said.
With the entrance of four new members, Upper School Theater and Improv teacher Greg Mihalik emphasized how well the group has already meshed, even before their first performance.
“There is a really good camaraderie, respect and support for one another,” Mihalik said. “I am always looking for good candidates, but I also look for how well everyone will gel together.”
Their setlist is made up of short-form improv games. These games are fast-paced and there are usually 10 or 11 per show.
“For example, we may announce the game New Choice where every time someone rings a bell, they have to change the things they are saying,” Mihalik said. “The cool thing about short form improv is that everyone knows the rules, and the fun part for the audience is guiding the improvers through that.”
Mihalik emphasized the excitement of returning performers who are looking forward to seeing the transformation of separate performers to an ensemble.
“We have an idea in improv called group mind, where you get on the same page with each other and be able to know what kind of move to make to give another actor joy and give them something to play with,” Mihalik said.
