The Greenhill varsity football team improved their record to 3-2 as they defeated Cistercian Preparatory School 42-7 in the annual Homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 27.
The team was led by senior Will Black who threw 411 passing yards and four touchdowns, adding 126 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The win brings the team back above a .500 winning percentage after winning their last two games.
This marks the second year in a row that the team has won the Homecoming football game, and the second time since the arrival of Head Football Coach KJ Williams last season.
Williams gives credit to his coaching staff when asked about what has led the team to their recent success.
“I have two great coaches who probably do not get enough credit: Coach Burgess and Coach Johnson,” Williams said. “They are the ones who are coordinating the offense, so when you guys see all those points up there, they are the ones who are coordinating the offense week in and week out.”
Although Williams is proud of the team’s win, he says he believes the team can still improve in certain areas.
“Having more football discipline means finishing through the line at the endzone or having fewer penalties to set the football team behind,” Williams said. “As we are creating an identity for this team, those little things are going to become standard and are going to have to be done at a consistent level for us to be successful.”
The team will be looking to extend their winning streak to three games as they play at Fort Worth Country Day on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
