Distributive Education Clubs of America is a global organization for high school and college students that aims to prepare future leaders and entrepreneurs for their chosen career. DECA’s programs and activities focus on developing key business and leadership skills through role play competitions.
Sophomore club president Rahul Singhal and sophomore vice president Mahedhar Sunkara are working together to reorganize and rebuild this club at Greenhill by bringing in new energy and direction to its activities.
“In the years DECA has been at Greenhill, it was always a very small group and only attended online competitions,” Sunkara said. “This year, we want to make the club big, [and] we want to get people good. Whenever people think of clubs at Greenhill, we want them to think of DECA as a prominent one.”
The leadership team is primarily led by sophomores because the past leaders graduated in 2024.
“The class of 2024 introduced DECA to Greenhill,” Singhal said. “Mahedhar and I are working on growing the program and establishing a new chapter.”
Last year, the DECA club only competed in the Stock Market Game, which was entirely online. Singhal and Sunkara plan on enrolling in regional and national conventions and competitions.
Singhal and Sunkara say Upper School students who are interested in business and marketing are encouraged to join.
“I am excited to meet new people if we go to a DECA convention,” sophomore Alex Han said. “I feel like I will thrive in that type of competitive environment.”
The club has experienced a successful start to the year, Sunkara says.
“There seems to be much more enthusiasm surrounding the club than we both expected,” Sunkara said. “There is going to need to be cuts for who goes to competitions, which will be a matter of who shows the most interest.”
The leadership team will choose who will represent Greenhill’s DECA Club in district, state and international competitions.
“I think we have a really strong turnout and a group of people who really show interest, so whoever competes will represent our program very well,” Han said.
