Greenhill varsity track and field athletes were offered the opportunity of attending an event with four-time Olympian gold medalist, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
McLaughlin-Levrone, the world-record holder in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, was the featured guest at a luncheon hosted by the Southern Methodist University Athletic Forum on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024.
The event took place at the Omni Dallas Hotel, and the Greenhill program received an invitation to send a group of up to 20 athletes and coaches to attend.
Greenhill students had the opportunity to interview McLaughlin-Levrone and asked various questions relating to both track and mental health.
“I am an aspiring runner and I hope to continue running in college, so hearing advice and getting pointers from a runner who has already made a career for herself was very impactful to me,” senior Alex Sharma said. “[It] will impact my mindset during meets for sure.”
Students say McLaughlin-Levrone was especially special to talk to as she is not only an Olympic gold medalist, but she is also an advocate for mental health.
“Getting to hear what Levrone had to say about mental health made me realize truly how many factors go into being a track star,” Senior Timo Kamgang said. “I am excited to apply her lessons into my running and see how it works out.”
