The Upper School’s annual Winter Dance was held on Jan. 20 at Cristi’s Banquet Hall in Farmer’s Branch.
Most students, like for the Homecoming dance, wore suits and dresses.
“I like [that] the students have collectively decided to wear darker colors, like red, black and navy, for [the Winter Dance],” said junior Cassie Rojas. “It makes picking out the dresses so much easier.”
Following tradition, the senior class wore costumes, such as Disney princesses or Pixar characters.
“I think dressing up in costumes is fun and adds more flair to a school dance, but I don’t think it’s as fun when people don’t go all out,” said senior Bella Widodo. “It’s as fun as people are willing to make it.”
Greenhill created greater anticipation for the dance than in previous years by implementing another Spirit Week with dress-up days and Color Wars events that spurred grade competitions.
“I like how they are doing Color Wars along with the dress-up days,” said junior Lauren Harrington. “It makes the buildup during the week more exciting.”
Although the Winter Dance and Homecoming share many of the same aspects, the process of getting dates is a key difference. The Winter Dance is typically a Sadie Hawkins dance where, customarily, girls ask boys.
“I kind of like having control over who my date is,” said junior Jane Hark. “It’s a little stressful to be the one asking, but it’s fun.”
