Students all over campus have been in a Fortnite frenzy ever since a new chapter of Fortnite was released with old features from 2017.
Fortnite: Battle Royale, which was released on July 27, 2017, is an online multiplayer video game that combines survival, exploration and building elements.
Developed by Epic Games, players engage in a Battle Royale format, fighting to be the last person or team standing while enduring the pressure of a storm. The game’s graphics, frequent updates and unique building mechanics have contributed to its widespread appeal.
On Oct. 27, Fortnite posted across various social platforms that the game would be returning to its roots of the original Battle Royale map.
“It honestly just brought a lot of people back who haven’t played the game in a while, like a lot of old friends that I just met on Fortnite that I have met again.” sophomore Nathan Trimmer said.
Fortnite had its biggest day and reached 44.7 million players, five and a half years after it was released.
“It brings my friends and I together. It was such a great way to rebuild connections with people, be with my friends and socialize,” sophomore Syrus Gupta said.
According to freshman Alex Han, even the most casual players have extended their play time due to the return of the chapter.
“I quit because [Fortnite] died, and my friends stopped playing. I started playing it again which has been really good because I get to bond with people over Fortnite,” Han said.
