On Friday, Feb. 16, fitness trainer Jonny Wright from the Cooper Institute was a guest speaker for the Dance for Athletes class.
Wright specializes in cardiovascular fitness.
“We’ll talk about the importance of conditioning and the importance of having a solid level of cardiovascular fitness,” Wright said before his appearance.
Wright said he would share what he specializes in with the class, regardless of what stage of fitness that student may be in.
“I work with people who have any level of cardiovascular fitness, and I think this will be beneficial to the students as some will have different fitness backgrounds than others,” Wright said.
Additionally, Wright says rather than just being a speaker and having the students listen while sitting, he wants to keep the students engaged. He wants the group to discuss each question together so it’s not just him speaking.
“The whole class is really to try to be as interactive as possible,” Wright said.
Wright says his reasoning behind this approach is that the typical guest speech can be boring. To combat this, he wants to keep the students engaged to the best of his ability with constant questions and movement as well.
Primarily, Wright shared how he wants to discuss what makes an athlete.
“I want to talk mainly about the things and attributes that a teenager needs to have to be an athlete,” Wright said.
Furthermore, Wright plans on discussing the process of staying an athlete through adulthood.
Wright says he will emphasize the importance of fitness throughout a person’s life due to the connection to their overall health.
