Associate Director of Admissions at Greenhill School, Felicia Rivers, brings a background in educational administration and a deep commitment to student development.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Southern New Hampshire University, Rivers’ career trajectory shifted from a potential interest in culinary arts to the field of educational outreach in underrepresented communities.
“UT Dallas really opened my eyes to the different kinds of students that I would be interacting with, and the different types of people that I would come across,” said Rivers.
Prior to her tenure at Greenhill, Rivers honed her skills at the University of Texas at Dallas, where her roles in admissions deepened her appreciation for diverse student backgrounds.
“It helped me learn how to look at each student differently, which has been invaluable in my role at Greenhill,” said Rivers.
Her experience at UT Dallas laid the groundwork for her approach at Greenhill, emphasizing the importance of individual student engagement and proactive communication.
“It’s always fast-paced. You have to talk to people all the time,” says Rivers, reflecting on the skills that prepared her for her current role.
What excites Rivers most about Greenhill is the school’s vibrant community. Having observed the positive long-term impact the school had on her nieces, she values the enduring connections and supportive environment that define Greenhill.
“People are gracious. There are spaces for gray, spaces for improvement,” said Rivers, emphasizing the school’s commitment to fostering both academic and personal growth.
On a more personal level, Rivers is an avid reader, aiming to read 35 books a year, a goal that remains challenging due to her demanding schedule.
Her commitment to this goal reflects her continuous pursuit of personal improvement and her passion for African American literature.
“I’m very big on reading African American authors. There are so many books that I’ve never even tapped into,” said Rivers.
Despite the challenges, she remains engaged in her literary community through book clubs and audiobooks, highlighting her adaptability and dedication to lifelong learning.
“I have so many recommendations and I’m part of two book clubs, which helps me stay connected and continually discover new works,” said Rivers.
