New Innovation Lab Coordinator Taylor Reynolds says she always knew she wanted to be a teacher, but she never thought she would end up in the STEM field.
Growing up, Reynolds moved frequently as she was part of a military family. She’s lived in many different places, one of which being Germany where she lived from second through sixth grade.
Reynolds later went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where she majored in Elementary Education.
She began working with younger kids, aged from five to nine, but soon realized she preferred teaching middle schoolers.
“I’ve kind of always known that I would be a teacher in some capacity, and for a long time I thought that I would be an elementary school teacher,” she said. “I would have sworn to you five years ago that I would have been a kindergarten through second-grade teacher.”
Up until five years ago, Reynolds was set on the path of becoming a middle school literacy teacher, yet as of today, she is heavily involved with the Design and Innovation
Reynolds credited her decision to drastically change her career path to a college class she took on STEM education.
“I loved the out of the box, hands on, authentic learning style that STEM is really representing,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds says she always felt drawn to humanities, but once she got into teaching roles involving STEM, she discovered how much she loved what it has to offer.
While transitioning into this field, Reynolds discovered she enjoyed teaching upper schoolers more than middle schoolers and began a job teaching at a campus that focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Reynolds knew she had found what she was looking for when she heard about Greenhill.
“I love the mission, the vision and the inclusive attitude on this campus,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds had been teaching in the Dallas area for a while before coming to Greenhill. She knew about the public schools in Dallas but not as much about the private schools. She found out about Greenhill from a girl she babysat who currently attends as a kindergartner.
Her current job as the Innovation Lab Manager is a brand new position at Greenhill, and says she has enjoyed it thus far.
“My main focus for the rest of this year is getting us set up in the new space. We’re getting ready to transition over there, and the new space is going to be so much bigger and better than what we currently have,” Reynolds said.
