Greenhill Chamber Orchestra & Sinfonia students performed five pieces during their concert on Feb. 12.
The Chamber Orchestra is made up of upper school students, and the Sinfonia is made up of middle school students.
Both groups started rehearsing pieces for this concert two months prior while also preparing for the Texas Private School Music Education Association All-State/Region band audition.
“We got the music for this concert two months ago, so we’ve been practicing that on and off with other activities going on at the same time,” junior Josephina Qiu said.
During the concert, the Chamber Orchestra performed “String Symphony No. 2 in D major” composed by Felix Mendelssohn as a whole and performed two other pieces in smaller sectionals.
The sectional made up of mainly TPSMEA All-State band members performed the I & II movements of “String Quartet No. 8” by Shostakovich, while the other sectional performed “Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor” by Bach.
“I spent a decent amount of time practicing the music,” Qiu said. “This experience helped me grow a lot as a violin player.”
Along with the upper school musicians, the middle school Sinfonia performed two pieces, including “Contrasts in E Minor” by Francis Feese and III Movement Allegro of “Concerto Grosso in D Minor” from L’estro Armonico by Vivaldi.
“The concert went really well,” Qiu said. “It was cool seeing the middle schoolers perform because we never usually get to see them perform.”
