Upper School math teacher Bob Allison has joined the Greenhill community this year, and students say he is already making a positive impact.
“His attitude and way of teaching really helps me learn math better than previous teachers,” sophomore Collin Cannon said.
Allison previously worked at Bryan Adams High School where he taught Algebra I, and later created a program allowing students to complete a calculus course prior to graduating.
It was named Fast-Track Program and primarily consisted of juniors.
According to Allison, the program gives students a good setup for AP BC Calculus.
At Greenhill, Allison teaches Advanced and Honors Algebra II as well as Advanced Pre-Calculus.
Following his first few months at Greenhill, Allison says he appreciates the smaller class sizes, the challenges the curriculum provides, and the freedom the students have.
“I really like the atmosphere of Greenhill. It prepares students for a college environment,” he said.
Aside from Allison’s teaching role, when he worked in the Dallas Independent School District, he coached the school’s baseball team.
“Although I don’t play anymore, I still have a passion for the game as I grew up with it,” he said.
Allison says a huge part of his love for teaching is teaching kids something new and hard to grasp.
“It’s difficult for me to say which class is my favorite, but if I had to pick, it would be the most challenging class,” Allison said.
Allison also says he tries to approach lessons differently than other teachers, focusing on keeping everyone actively engaged in the activity.
“He really challenges us to engage with the content, and I’ve never really had a teacher do [that]. I think this class will be awesome with the help of Allison,” Cannon said.
