On Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, Greenhill fall athletes competed in the Southwest Preparatory Conference championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
Here’s how each team did:
Boys Varsity Volleyball
The boys varsity volleyball team started off the tournament with a win versus St. John’s Episcopal School in five sets.
“Ideally we would’ve won in three sets, but a win’s a win nonetheless,” junior Jack Stone said.
Next, they played Episcopal High School, who came into the tournament without losing a counter game and ranked first in the SPC South conference.
“We knew they were a tough team to beat, but regardless, we put it all on the line,” Stone said.
They were defeated in three sets. Their next game came the next morning versus Awty International School, which they beat in five sets en route to securing third place in the tournament.
“It was difficult to come out the next day after the tough loss versus EHS, but I’m happy that we ended the season off on a good note,” Stone said.
Girls Varsity Volleyball
The girls varsity volleyball team started off their SPC tournament with a loss against St. Stephens Episcopal School, losing in three sets.
Next, they bounced back with a win against the Episcopal School of Dallas, sweeping them three sets to none. In their last game of the season, they fell to the Kinkaid School three sets to one in the fifth-place game – ultimately earning them sixth place in the tournament.
“It wasn’t the result we were looking for coming into the tournament, but I’m proud of the way we competed for each other,” junior Campbell Sims said.
Girls Varsity Field Hockey
The girls varsity field hockey team lost to Episcopal High School in their semifinal SPC tournament match 5-0. Next, they played the Awty International School and lost 2-1.
“Losing to AWTY was definitely the hardest loss for the team, especially considering that we had beaten them earlier in the season,” junior Amanda Park said. “It also meant we couldn’t play Hockaday in our final game.”
Then, on Saturday, the team defeated Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart 5-0 to secure seventh place in the tournament.
“The win was very bittersweet. Ending the season on a win only made it better,” Park said.
Cross Country
In the SPC championships, cross country athletes run in a 5-kilometer competition.
During the run, the girls team placed eighth – with sophomore Isabel Bhatia finishing 17th and freshman Lilly Williams placing 24th overall.
The boys team placed seventh in the competition – with junior Chris Williams finishing 16th and senior Andrew Mann finishing 23rd overall.
