In early December, sophomore Naomi Wien, who’s the girls’ golf co-captain, was selected to serve on the Girls Golf eLeader National Board of Directors, a national leadership group consisting of 13 student athletes across the United States.
The eLeader program is centered around giving girls’ golf advocates, ages 13 to 18, a place to empower young female golfers through leadership, mentorship, and mental wellness.
According to Wien, she began golfing at eight years old and began playing competitively at age 11.
In June 2024, Naomi attended a two-day Ladies Professional Golf Association Leadership Academy in Tennessee where participants focused on confidence, mindset, and emotional control.
“They talked a lot about positive self-talk and mental health,” Wien said. “Having control over your mindset was really emphasized.”
According to Wien, some specific activities she learned from the leadership academy consisted of verbal motivation and self-positivity.
She was selected through a competitive application process, consisting of more than 70 applicants. The application process prior to the final interview was a series of written questions.
“There are about a dozen of us on the board, from different states and grade levels,” Wien said. “It’s really cool to be surrounded by girls with such different experiences.”
As a board member, Wien will help provide feedback on Girls Golf programming and attend select leadership and professional golf events. She says she believes this opportunity will help her grow both as a leader and a golfer.
“I want to play golf in college, and I think this will really help my mental game and leadership skills,” Wien said.
