Middle School Dance Performs End-of-Trimester Show
Middle School Dance on Wednesday put on their end-of-trimester show, with students showcasing what they had been learning in dance since August.
The show consisted of three group pieces and three student-choreographed pieces. The group dances are choreographed by Middle and Upper School Dance teacher Kelly McCain and are designed to reflect each of the three skills they have been taught throughout the trimester: ballet, modern and jazz.
This trimester, McCain replaced the jazz group dance with a structured improv performance instead.
The student-choreographed dances allow students to develop their skills as an artist and tell a story to the audience through dance. Students can choose any style of dance to perform. They also choose the music they would like to dance to and any accompaniment from the other dancers.
“I tell the kids to focus on their interests, and what they’re passionate about,” McCain said. “Then I ask them to channel those interests into dance, and develop a piece that reflects them.”
Middle School Dance will host two more performances this year, at the end of the second and third trimesters.
