On Dec. 10, many families began celebrating Hanukkah, a popular Jewish holiday known as the festival of lights.
The holiday lasts for eight days. Many Greenhill students have been forced to change their Hanukkah plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with all the alterations that were made, the co-presidents of the Jewish Studies Club were still able to deliver a virtual presentation on the story of Hanukkah.
Jewish Studies Club Co-Presidents, juniors Andrew Daitch and Kayla Rutner, shared their insight during community time. The presentation took place on Thursday, December 10, the first night of Hanukkah.
From the presentation, many learned that the holiday celebrates the rededication to the Temple of Jerusalem after a group of Jewish soldiers took it back from the Greeks.
“It was very different than usual because of the pandemic, but I’m glad we got to share the story of Hanukkah with everyone,” Daitch said.
